Sane, stupid, lame, silly, crazy, original, ......

HEY EVERYONE!
Welcome to the blog for my next travel adventure!

The title of the blog reveals one of my dearest obsessions (the tv show 'The Amazing Race'), as well as an assignment for all of you blog-followers out there....should you choose to accept it ;)

I'm going to be travelling for about 7-8 months, and I'd like to have a list of tasks to attempt in each country, city, town.....wherever you send me.
I can't guarantee that I'll do each and every task, but DAMN IT! I'm gonna try my hardest!

Here's the trip itinerary:

Feb. 3-March 14th: New Zealand
~2 weeks: Fiji
~3 months: Australia
~2-3 months: South East Asia
(including, but not limited to: Indonesia, (Singapore?), Malaysia, Thailand,
Cambodia, Vietnam, and Laos)

So go ahead and start coming up with the funniest, wildest, and wierdest things that I can do on this trip (sane, stupid, and lame requests will be considered).
Please comment on this blog entry so that I can keep all of them in one place.

Also, I will attempt to photograph each task so that I can post the pic to the blog to prove that the task has been completed.

Thanks for your help, everyone!! The adventure begins February 3rd, 2011!!

  7. Sorry a little late with my NZ picks but here it is:
    1. Rotorua and the geothermal springs.
    2. Watching a Maori performance-@ Whakarewarewa
    3. Ruakuri and Waitomo Caves (Seeing the glow-worms was really cool)!
    4. Views from the Sky Tower in Auckland
    5. The Agrodome-I don't know why but sheep interest me and they shear one right on the stage!
    6. Rainbow Springs Wildlife Park has a really cool exhibit/rehabilitation program on the Kiwi.
    7. Cheesey yet I know you can make it really fun, the Giant size bottle of L&P.
    8. Harbour Cruise of Auckland...getting to Rangitoto and Mt Victoria were the highlights for me!
That's all for the North Island! Now for the South Island!
    1. Musts are Doubtful Sound and Milford Sound. 2. Queenstown is great for adventure sports activities and starting points for some great tramping!! Hope you get to go on a 3-4 day hike! I didn't but am going back for it!!
    3. Arthur's National Pass Park west of CHCH has some great hikes. I'd recommend taking the tranzalpine train if you can manage it, but if not hiring a car/campervan will be great too!
    4. Wunderbar! It'd be great if you can make it there and take a pic with Travolta and Redford. It's in Lyttleton (south of CHCH).
    5. Lake Wanaka is a beautiful spot and if you're looking for a little spoiling at a very nice and friendly B&B let me know I have friends that own a place there! They are lovely!!
    6. Oh Te Anau is a great little relaxation spot. Just a cute quaint little town. A starting point for getting to the Doubtful Sound and picking up the Kepler Track at the Swing Bridge!

Katie, have an amazing adventure and I look forward to continuing to read your updates and gawking at your photos!! XOXOXO my friend!!!

  8. Ok tasks for Australia (Part 1... I'm sure I'll think of more)

    1) Find out how the heck one is supposed to answer to "how ya goin?" .... I always said "I am fine thank you and how are you?" I don't think that's right.
    2) Request the song "Final countdown" at the bar
    3) Pick some fruit
    4) Get someone to tell you about drop bears... very dangerous...
    5) Plot an Aussie's vowels .... haha kidding... kind of
    6) Go sailing ( I recommend the Whitsunday Islands)
    7) Play the didgeridoo
    8) Pet an Australian animal (Kangaroo, Wallaby, Koala.... challenge: crocodile, snake... safely of course. The Steve Irwin zoo is good for that)
    9) Do a Tim Tam slam
    10) Go surfing!! so fun (I did a course in Noosa... awesome little surf town)

Take a picture of everything you do!!!

    to be continued....

You are so amazing... make the most of everyday... as you always do :)

    XOXO

  9. Hey Katie!!!

So here is the start of my suggested tasks = )

In NZ- Nevis Bungy jump in Queenstown ;)

    AUS -
    -Cairns Bungy in Queensland
-Go to a live Footy game
    -Sydney - Hike Blue Mountains
-Tasmania - Go visit Charity and meet her little man, Jake = )
-Woolamai Beach - Do the Penguin Parade & Koala Highlights tour approx $130 AUD
-Rent a WICKED bus (you'll know what I mean when you get there) and go up the coast.
    -Scuba the Great Barrier
-Whitsunday Islands (just go there :)
-Gold Coast - GO ZORBING!!! http://www.ozball.com.au/
-Neptune Islands in South Australia- cage dive (scuba) with Great White Sharks

Bali- 66 club - bungy jump over looking Kuta Beach... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fdDk92qmc5o

You may have noticed I added an AJ Hackett bungy site for a few locations... heheh I did the bungy in Bali, was my 2nd of 4th jumps and is absolutely amazing!!! If you loved skydiving, bungy is such an incredible feeling, more so than skydiving! The Nevis might be too much for a first jump it's pretty high but if you get a chance elsewhere, or even Bali over looking Kuta Beach, it's amazing! = )

Looks like you're well aware of the EXPERIENCE tour busses, for sure go on an OZ EX bus up the East Coast, wish I did this when I was there but ran out of time.

Have an amazing time, enjoy every moment - I assure you that you'll never forget the time you're spending there and will think about it everyday after you return home... I know I have!

    Love you, stay safe!
    xoxo

    ~Stacey

PS- If/when you go to Bali, the most common transport is taxi via scooters... DO NOT allow anyone back to your hotel/hostel or (I'm pretty sure you don't need to be told this, but...) accept offer of massage by a driver - a girl that I bartended with was in Bali with me and got a ride back to our hotel by a scooter lady who offered a back massage for $5, she accepted and when she got back to our hotel I was sleeping, she went to washroom and when she came out the scooter lady was gone along with all her money, rings, etc. and some of my stuff too... In Bali you can go to a really nice salon that are EVERYWHERE and pay $8 for an amazing hr massage or $8 for a full mani/pedi... it's amazing!!!

  10. Hey Stacey and Stacey! (I'll try using Menzies and McKinnon to keep you straight) :)

I've gone through your lists of tasks and have some comments and questions for you.....

    McKinnon:
Okay, so now I'm ACTUALLY considering bungy jumping!! We went to AJ Hackett's yesterday and saw a video on it and now I'm not as scared :) But I don't want to spend $200 to do it here in NZ. How much was it in Bali? Is that an AJ Hackett one as well?

I'm not planning on going to Tasmania, but Charity said that she may make a trip to Melbourne because she's never been there on vacation!

I would LOVE to travel in a Wicked bus! ....I just don't want to drive, haha! I'm sure someone would be willing to take my money and be driver :P

I was going to zorb in NZ but it was wicked expensive...do you know how much it is on the Gold Coast?

The Oz Experience sounds much more laid back than the Kiwi Experience....I think I'll look into it and compare with Greyhound prices if the Wicked vans don't work out.

I am definitely getting massages in SE Asia!! ...and not from motorists, lol! ;) Thanks for the warning!

    Menzies:
I know what you mean about not knowing how to answer 'how ya goin?', but with the British 'you alright?' (because there are soooo many british travellers here in NZ!) I feel like they're always thinking that I'm hurt and need medical attention, lol!

Drop bears...I've been introduced to those by my roommate Sophie....terrible creatures, they are! ;) haha

Plot vowels? First I want to understand them! lol!

What in the world is a Tim Tam Slam?? hahaha

Thanks for your tasks, girls! I'll do my best!

  11. ok so... a tim tam is a cookie in Aus (It has since made its way to Canada... so happy!) It's rectangular in shape and you 1) bite off two opposite corners of the cookie 2) dip it in a hot beverage and 3) suck up the drink like a straw so that it melts the cookie and chocolate inside and you shove it in your mouth.... ooooh so good!

As for tours. I think I took OZ experience bus at one point along the great ocean road. I heard good things about that company, the only drawback being that they are strict about where you can stay and what you can do etc to keep it efficient; but it was always fun. I took a different tour from Darwin, through to Alice Springs, around Uluru and Kata Juta and then to Adelaid that I loved... I can't remember the name of it and my pamphlets that I collected are in Penticton. How I found it, though, was just by going into backpacker travel agencies, like peter pan (there are a ton of them) and asked them for the different tours to choose from and the agents really helped me. I also got ideas through what other backpackers had done.

Also, if you get up to Cairns, Uncle Brian's tour is so much fun. The man who runs it (Uncle Brian) Is a riot... that tour has some amazing reviews.
